\"pictureAlums who want to make reservations for this weekend’s UNMC Alumni Reunion still have time. <\/p>\n

Like last year, the reunion — which will run Friday and Saturday — will bring together alums from four different UNMC academic units — the colleges of medicine, nursing and pharmacy and the School of Allied Health Professions. <\/p>\n

This year’s alumni reunion will honor the classes of 1943, 1948, 1953, 1958, 1963, 1968, 1973, 1978, 1983, 1988, 1993, 1998, 2003 and those who graduated more than 50 years ago. <\/p>\n

On Friday, alums will tour the Michael F. Sorrell Center for Health Science Education as well as the UNMC campus. The highlight event will be a luncheon in the Truhlsen Campus Events Center featuring presentations from the four deans of the academic units involved in the reunion — Dr. Gollan; Virginia Tilden, D.N.Sc., College of Nursing; Courtney Fletcher, Pharm.D., College of Pharmacy; and Kyle Meyer, Ph.D., School of Allied Health Professions. <\/p>\n

\n<\/TABLE>The College of Pharmacy will kick off a “Celebration of 100 Years of Pharmacy Education in Nebraska” by hosting the inaugural Centennial Lectureship. Dennis Worthen, Ph.D., Lloyd Scholar and adjunct professor at the University of Cincinnati College of Pharmacy, will make a presentation entitled “Rufus A. Lyman — Founding Dean, National Leader” at 2:45 p.m. in the Sorrell Center. Dr. Lyman was the founding dean of the University of Nebraska College of Pharmacy. <\/p>\n

A reception will be held for all attendees between 4:30 and 6 p.m. in the Truhlsen Campus Events Center followed by reunion parties and dinners for the honor classes at a variety of locations around town. <\/p>\n

In lieu of separate class events, the physician assistant program will be having a PA get together for all of the honor years classes and faculty at 6:30 p.m. at McKenna’s Blues Booze & BBQ, 7425 Pacific St. <\/p>\n

Activities on Saturday, Sept. 20, will kick off with a champagne brunch. This will be followed by a trolley tour of Omaha. In addition, UNMC alumni can enjoy free admission on Sept. 20 at the Joslyn Art Museum and the Durham Museum. An open house will be held at the newly renovated Bennett Hall, which will be the new home of the School of Allied Health Professions. <\/p>\n

The evening will culminate with the UNMC Alumni Celebration and Awards Dinner at the Holiday Inn Central, 3321 S. 72nd St. Festivities will include a video of alumni reminiscences, a tribute to alumni award recipients and a recognition of the honor classes. <\/p>\n

“Alumni Weekend will be a great opportunity for alumni to reconnect with each other and faculty from the respective colleges and schools,” said Kim Cuda, director of alumni relations. “All alumni, not just honor years, are invited to attend and partake in the festivities.” <\/p>\n
