{"id":32959,"date":"2008-09-23T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2008-09-23T05:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2008\/09\/23\/sharing-to-host-national-conference-on-student-run-clinics\/"},"modified":"2008-09-23T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2008-09-23T05:00:00","slug":"sharing-to-host-national-conference-on-student-run-clinics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2008\/09\/23\/sharing-to-host-national-conference-on-student-run-clinics\/","title":{"rendered":"SHARING to host national conference on student-run clinics"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\"><p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/SHARINGConference-1.jpg\" border=\"0\" align=\"right\" alt=\"picture disc.\">UNMC and the SHARING Clinics will host a conference in late March to start a national discussion on the topic of student-run health care clinics. <\/p>\n<p>The conference is aimed at students and faculty from various fields of health care and is designed to foster conversation among people from universities who currently have student-run clinics and those who are interested in starting such clinics.<\/p>\n<p>The conference &#8212; which will be held at UNMC &#8212; starts March 27 and runs through March 29. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The goal of this conference is to enable and inspire more schools across the country to incorporate student-run clinics into their programs and to improve existing clinics to help enhance the health care of the underserved nationwide,&#8221; said Natalie Stavas, co-president of the UNMC SHARING Clinic Board. &#8220;Student-run clinics help generate a culture of service and passion for the underserved and give students the tools they need to implement new methods of providing heath care.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Best practices for establishing and running student-run clinics will be among the topics covered at the conference.<\/p>\n<p>The cost of the conference is $75 for students and $250 for faculty. For more information about the conference, send an e-mail to <a href=\"mailto:skbryan@unmc.edu\">skbryan@unmc.edu<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>UNMC&#8217;s SHARING Clinics are a nationally recognized group of clinics that serve the uninsured and underinsured at little or no cost. <\/p>\n<p>Founded in 1997, the SHARING Clinics include:<br \/>\n<UL><LI>SHARING for general health care;<br \/>\n<LI>RESPECT for STD testing, treatment, and counseling;<br \/>\n<LI>GOODLIFE for diabetes care; and<br \/>\n<LI>A recently opened dental clinic in Lincoln run by College of Dentistry students.<\/UL><\/p>\n<p>Students and faculty from a variety of disciplines, including medicine, nursing, physical therapy, dentistry and public health, work together to provide patients with integrated, multidisciplinary care.
