However, the UNMC OB\/GYN physician has never witnessed a birth quite like the one he saw on Sunday morning at The Nebraska Medical Center.<\/p>\n

It was a fairly normal delivery with the mother, Jessica Bosiljevac, delivering a 10 lb., 4 oz., 20 \u00bd inch baby girl at 4:48 a.m. after eight hours of labor. <\/p>\n

The new baby — Ameliya Marie — shared her 19-year-old mother’s Sept. 28 birth date, as well as her 54-year-old grandmother’s (Helen Gilroy) birth date. <\/p>\n

Three generations — all sharing the same birth date. <\/p>\n

“I’ve never seen that before,” Dr. Tomich said. “I have to think it’s pretty rare.”<\/p>\n

Bosiljevac’s due date was Sept. 26, so she knew there was an outside chance that she could deliver on Sept. 28. <\/p>\n

When she made it to Sept. 27 without delivering, the decision was made to induce labor on Saturday evening. <\/p>\n

“I wanted Ameliya to share our birthday,” Bosiljevac said. “I think it’s special. It’s the best present I could ever get. My mom has said that to me over and over again every birthday, so it will be nice to say it to my daughter, too.”<\/p>\n

For Gilroy, Ameliya will be her first granddaughter. She joins her two grandsons, Caleb Strothkamp, 9, and Connor Swett, 5, who are the children of Bosiljevac’s sister, Katie Swett. <\/p>\n

Both Bosiljevac and Gilroy praised the hospital staff.<\/p>\n

“I was very pleased,” Bosiljevac said. “They couldn’t have been any better — the doctors, the nurses, the lactation consultant. It was a great team.”<\/p>\n

\n<\/TABLE>Gilroy said Ameliya’s umbilical cord was wrapped around her neck when she came out, and she was quite purple. <\/p>\n

“The doctors were awesome,” she said. “They were very cool and showed no panic. It was impressive.”<\/p>\n

Dr. Tomich was assisted in the delivery by Todd Lovgren, M.D., a resident physician in OB\/GYN.<\/p>\n

Bosiljevac brought her longtime friend, Maura Manning, to help her through labor. Adding to the excitement of Ameliya’s arrival, Manning unexpectedly fainted during the delivery, hitting her head on the bed and breaking her nose and knocking out her two front teeth. <\/p>\n

Manning was revived and whisked to the emergency room where her nose was repaired. <\/p>\n

Thankfully, Manning’s father is a dentist and will be able to take care of her dental issues. <\/p>\n
