{"id":33570,"date":"2008-12-11T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2008-12-11T06:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2008\/12\/11\/unmc-students-train-in-communities-across-nebraska\/"},"modified":"2008-12-11T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2008-12-11T06:00:00","slug":"unmc-students-train-in-communities-across-nebraska","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2008\/12\/11\/unmc-students-train-in-communities-across-nebraska\/","title":{"rendered":"UNMC students train in communities across Nebraska"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\"><p>UNMC students are working with health professionals across Nebraska as part of their health care education requirements. <\/p>\n<p>The student rotations are part of the UNMC Rural Health Education Network (RHEN), an innovative program developed to help address the shortage of health professionals in rural Nebraska.<\/p>\n<p>The students represent the College of Medicine, College of Pharmacy, College of Dentistry and the School of Allied Health Professions.<\/p>\n<p>The RHEN program was developed to expose students to a rural health setting with the idea that if students receive their training in a rural area, the chances are greater they may consider returning to a rural area once they complete their training.<\/p>\n<p>Nebraska&#8217;s Area Health Education Centers support students during UNMC rural rotations by integrating them into the community during their rotation. AHECs are community-based programs that work with community and academic partners to address the health care work force needs of medically underserved communities through a variety of activities such as continuing education for providers, pipeline development for K-12 students and other community-oriented programs.<\/p>\n<p>The following students will be participating in rural rotations between January and May.
