\n<\/TABLE>UNeMed will sponsor a special seminar on Thursday at noon in the Durham Research Center Auditorium.<\/p>\n

Christine Smith, vice president and head of Pfizer Worldwide Research’s Biotherapeutics Center of Emphasis, will present “Biotherapeutics and Macromolecules: Additional approaches to address patient needs.” <\/p>\n

An overview of the biotherapeutic field and selected Pfizer examples will be discussed.<\/p>\n

“We are extremely pleased to have such a high profile individual here from a large pharmaceutical company,” said Michael Dixon, Ph.D., vice president and chief operating officer for UNeMed, the technology licensing arm for UNMC. “It provides us an opportunity to work with large companies like Pfizer to develop the drugs that will be used in the future.”<\/p>\n

UNeMed is seeking ways to partner with Pfizer and other companies that enable scientists to develop and market inventions to improve health and save lives.<\/p>\n

Smith leads a biotherapeutics group that identifies and optimizes large biomolecules across multiple disease areas for Pfizer Worldwide Research. She was recognized in the 2007 Pharma Voice as one of the 100 Most Inspiring People.<\/p>\n

She has worked on projects at all stages of pharmaceutical drug development from discovery through clinic and is co-inventor on several patents pertaining to the discovery of novel proteins.<\/p>\n
