From recycling, resource useage to efficiency measures, the team, called the UNMC Sustainability Team, will look for ways and means for UNMC to be more environmentally responsible. <\/p>\n

Vice Chancellor of Business and Finance Don Leuenberger called for the formation of the team in attempt to build on UNMC’s already strong legacy of environmental awareness. <\/p>\n

“We’ve long been a leader in the city and the state in terms of environmental issues,” Leuenberger said. “But as we continue to grow, we need to look for more ways to protect and improve our environment.”<\/p>\n

Hauser defined sustainability as having as little impact on one’s environment as possible and, when possible, taking steps to improve environmental conditions. <\/p>\n

Leuenberger has charged the team with exploring the various ways UNMC can be more responsible for the environment.<\/p>\n

The team will do so, Hauser said, by becoming familiar with the sustainability efforts underway on campus, educating the campus about sustainability and the ways employees can contribute to the cause, tracking such efforts and serving as a resource for those who want to improve their sustainability. <\/p>\n

As part of the education effort, UNMC Today periodically will run a new “Think Green” series that contains sustainability tips that can be applied by employees on campus as well as in their homes. <\/p>\n

“This campaign does not simply affect UNMC,” Boldt said. “We realize we are part of larger community and that what we do as a campus affects others, too. By working to improve our sustainability, we also improve the sustainability of the greater community.” <\/p>\n
