\n<\/TABLE>After a 22-year career at UNMC, William Haire, M.D., professor of medicine, has retired. <\/p>\n

Dr. Haire served in the UNMC Department of Internal Medicine’s Section of Oncology\/Hematology. He will continue to teach medical students, residents and fellows on a part-time basis in his area of expertise of blood clots and blood disorders.<\/p>\n

Dr. Haire, who is board certified in internal medicine and hematology, came to UNMC after serving as clinical assistant professor of medicine at the University of Kansas Medical Center, where he earned his medical degree.<\/p>\n

He directed the Nebraska Regional Hemophilia Center since 1991, a center that provides care to hemophilia patients in Nebraska and parts of Iowa, Kansas and Missouri and is partially supported by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Maternal Child Health Bureau. <\/p>\n

\n<\/TABLE>From 1992 to 1994, he was the hematology fellowship director and co-director of the oncology hematology fellowship program from 1994 to 2004.<\/p>\n

“Dr. Haire brought unique expertise in blood clotting problems to UNMC,” said Lynell Klassen, M.D., Henry J. Lehnhoff Professor and chairman of the UNMC Department of Internal Medicine. “Patients, students and fellow physicians have all greatly benefited from his skill, knowledge and keen sense of scientific inquiry.”<\/p>\n

Dr. Haire is a recipient of the Sir William Osler Teaching Award for internal medicine at UNMC. He has given more than 350 presentations both nationally and internationally. Dr. Haire has had more than 100 articles published in scholarly journals, as well as 18 book chapters.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
