  • Tuesday and Wednesday<\/B> — Free screenings, 3 to 6 p.m. in The Nebraska Medical Center’s PT Clinic, fourth floor of the Clarkson Doctors Building South.<\/UL>

    \n<\/TABLE>UNMC’s hospital partner, The Nebraska Medical Center, will host three events this week for people who suffer from “Foot Drop” — a common side effect of neurological disease. <\/p>\n

    Foot Drop is a condition that causes people to drag one of their feet when they walk. This increases the danger of a fall and serious injury.<\/p>\n

    People who have survived strokes or who have Multiple Sclerosis or Cerebral Palsy often have “Foot Drop.” <\/p>\n

    In the past, foot drop was treated with an orthotic brace. Now, new electronic technology is available at The Nebraska Medical Center. <\/p>\n

    The Bioness 3000 is an electronic device known as an “e-stim.” Small in size, it attaches to the patient’s leg and uses electrical signals to help activate the patient’s leg muscles to overcome the foot drop.<\/p>\n

    The hospital will host an educational seminar today demonstrate the Bioness 3000 will then have clinics on Tuesday and Wednesday to see if Foot Drop sufferers could benefit from the device.<\/p>\n
