\n<\/TABLE>Established in 2001, the BRIN program was created to expose students to serious biomedical research, build a statewide biomedical research infrastructure between undergraduate and graduate institutions and to strengthen each undergraduate institution’s infrastructure and increase its capacity to conduct cutting-edge biomedical and behavioral research.<\/p>\n

Today we meet Kelsey Bryant a junior biology major at Doane College.<\/p>\n

Who is Kelsey Bryant?<\/B><\/p>\n

I am unsure of the exact career I want to pursue, however, I know that research is a specific area I want to excel in. One thing that I know for certain is the passion that I have for science. I am not only intrigued by science but also by learning anything new involving the sciences. I feel fortunate to have had the educational opportunities that have been presented to me. Giving back to society in respect to science is a high priority of mine. Being involved and making a difference while touching others lives drives my desire to make a difference. <\/p>\n

Has science always been a part of your life? <\/B> <\/p>\n

Throughout the years, I have become aware of what a drastic impact science has had on everyone and everything. I would like to contribute to the development of new techniques and knowledge of current technology. Before I take my leap into graduate school, I want to grasp every opportunity that comes forth while I attend Doane College. <\/p>\n

How is it important to you? <\/B><\/p>\n

Being involved in many clubs, organizations and honor societies has helped me become more socially aware to my surroundings. In addition to social awareness, I have become more aware of biology in the world around me. One of my best experiences so far has been research that I did at Doane College this past summer. This experience has made me realize how much I enjoy research and has helped me come to the decision of making it a part of my present and future. Research development is an area that I am interested in pursuing during post-graduate school. <\/p>\n

Why did you choose to participate in the INBRE program?<\/B><\/p>\n

I’m interested in the INBRE program because it is a great opportunity to allow myself to further develop my researching skills while exposing myself to different environments and excelled areas of research. I’m interested in making research a part of my future career and want to explore all aspects of it. Learning techniques and the fundamentals behind such aspects will help me build a solid foundation of science as a whole.<\/p>\n

What do you hope to gain from the program?<\/B> <\/p>\n

Science has always been an interest of mine and I would like the opportunity to continue developing knowledge relating to research. I understand that it is a huge commitment. Over the past year, I have debated the issue of research and the time commitment it involves.
