Tony Huerta is in the right job. <\/p>\n

The employee records technician loves to help people and whether he assists a department personnel administrator coordinator process changes through the SAP system or helps non-U.S. citizens renew their I-9 forms and work permits, Huerta almost certainly wears a smile. <\/p>\n

\n<\/TABLE>His efforts and positive attitude have earned Huerta the Chancellor’s Gold “U” for the month of June. <\/p>\n

“If you are in a crunch situation, Tony can be depended upon to return your phone call and offer solutions that are practical and workable,” his nominator said. “He is always positive and helpful. Tony is courteous, polite and always helpful.<\/p>\n

“He never makes anyone feel like they are asking a dumb question!”<\/p>\n

Huerta has worked in his current job for six years. His efforts to maintain employee records for the campus help work run smoothly across the medical center. <\/p>\n

Below, Huerta reflects on his job at UNMC and his other interests. <\/p>\n

On his biggest work challenge<\/B> <\/p>\n

Probably the biggest challenge is working with individuals from other countries and overcoming language barriers. There are all sorts of ways around that, however. Probably the most effective is to use writing instead of speaking. Notepads or e-mails often are good tools in these situations. <\/p>\n

On the rewards of his job<\/B><\/p>\n

I’m just satisfied by helping people and I like to solve problems. I know when I do solve these problems, I either satisfy the department or the employee and I really enjoy that, too.<\/p>\n

On his co-workers<\/B><\/p>\n

I think we have a lot of good personalities and they all mesh really well together. It definitely makes the job easier.<\/p>\n

On his love of classic rock music, which is reflected by the Beatles and Led Zeppelin posters that adorn his office wall<\/B><\/p>\n

A lot of it had a good message and good meaning. There was a lot of stuff going on at the time and the music often dealt with that. <\/p>\n

On working near his father, Robert Huerta, a help desk analyst in UNMC Information Technology Services<\/B><\/p>\n

We try to hang out and go to lunch when we can. With him working right here, we have the ability to do that. My mom works just over at the VA and it was really great when I still lived at home because we could all carpool into work every day.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
