\n<\/TABLE>Graduates of UNMC’s Radiation Science Technology Education (RSTE) program gathered last month for the first reunion in the program’s 75-year-history. <\/p>\n

About 75 alumni and friends attended the event on the UNMC campus on July 17. <\/p>\n

“The 75th anniversary reunion of the Division of Radiation Science Technology was a huge success,” said James Temme, associate director of the RTSE program. “We had alumni attending from New York, California and, of course, Nebraska.”<\/p>\n

Alumni who attended the reunion were particularly impressed with the division’s new home in Bennett Hall, Temme said. Bennett Hall now houses the offices for RSTE faculty in all of the division’s programs, which are:
\n

  • CT\/MRI;
    \n
  • Diagnostic Medical Sonography;
    \n
  • Nuclear Medicine Technology;
    \n
  • Radiography; and
    \n
  • Radiation Therapy.<\/UL> <\/p>\n

    “It is obvious from the excitement at the event that the alumni really enjoyed being back on campus and visiting with their classmates,” said Roxanna Jokela, director of UNMC alumni relations. “I am confident we will move forward with leadership from these colleagues in forming an RSTE Alumni chapter.”<\/p>\n

    To that end, Jokela and Kyle Meyer, Ph.D., associate dean for the School of Allied Health Professions, announced during the reunion that a RTSE alumni association would be formed. <\/p>\n

    The reunion was not only a celebration of the division’s past accomplishments, but a wonderful way to mark the beginning of the newly formed association, Dr. Meyer said. <\/p>\n

    \n<\/TABLE>Also at the event, Joe Anderson, M.D., professor and vice chairman of radiology at UNMC, was honored for outstanding contributions to the RSTE program.<\/p>\n

    Jokela thanked Carol McGlade — a 1982 RSTE graduate in radiography for presenting the idea for a reunion, and for agreeing to serve as the first president of the association’s board. <\/p>\n

    Jokela also acknowledged Dennis Strauss, M.D., a retired radiologist, for his thoughtful keynote address. Dr. Strauss is a College of Medicine alumnus (Class of 1968) who also did his residency at UNMC before he practiced general radiology at Omaha’s Methodist Hospital for nearly 30 years.<\/p>\n
