Without additional nurse educators, the projected retirements will cripple the nurse educator workforce in Nebraska, said Sarah Thompson, Ph.D., Niedfelt Distinguished Professor and associate dean of academic programs in the College of Nursing. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We need nurses interested in making an impact on the future generation of nurses,&#8221; she said. &#8220;Addressing the faculty shortage is one of the most effective ways to attack the nursing shortage.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>At UNMC, nurses can become educators in three ways:<br \/>\n<UL><LI>Through one of the college&#8217;s advanced practice registered nurse master&#8217;s degree specialties;<br \/>\n<LI>A post-master&#8217;s certificate; and<br \/>\n<LI>The doctoral program.<\/UL><\/p>\n<p><TABLE border=\"0\" width=\"250\" cellspacing=\"10\" align=\"right\"><br \/>\n<TR><br \/>\n<TD><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/CON909.jpg\" border=\"0\" align=\"right\" alt=\"picture disc.\"><br \/>\n<\/TD><br \/>\n<\/TR><br \/>\n<TR><br \/>\n<TD><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size:7pt;line-height:150%\">The College of Nursing has received a grant from the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration that will help bolster the nurse educator workforce. (Vicky Cerino, UNMC public relations)<br \/>\n<\/span><br \/>\n<\/TD><br \/>\n<\/TR><br \/>\n<\/TABLE>Graduates of the master&#8217;s degree and post-master&#8217;s degree will fill roles as advance practice nurses with nurse educator skills. Graduates of the doctoral program will do research and teach.<\/p>\n<p>Courses will be delivered through distance education computer technology. The time frame for degree completion is flexible.
