Four years ago Howard Gendelman, M.D., chairman of the Department of Pharmacology and Experimental Neuroscience, partnered with the Society on NeuroImmune Pharmacology and Springer Publishers to create the Journal of Neuroimmune Pharmacology. <\/p>\n

\nThe Journal of Neuroimmune Pharmacology – which is edited by personnel from the UNMC Department of Pharmacology and Experimental Neuroscience, recently received a high impact factor score.
\n<\/span>
\n<\/TD>
\n<\/TR>
\n<\/TABLE>In a field already crowded with journals, it was unclear whether another one would make it. <\/p>\n

However, years of hard work, persistence, ingenuity and some luck helped the journal earn a 2.456 impact factor score highlighted by Thomson Reuters, formerly known as the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI). <\/p>\n

“An initial score this high is nearly unheard of for such a new publication,” said Andrea Macaluso, editorial director for Springer Publications.<\/p>\n

“This score is years ahead of the standard for society journals and obviously reflects the extra thought and effort that has been devoted to its success,” said Michael Roth, M.D., professor of medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles.<\/p>\n

The score brings the journal in line with many well-established journals including:
\n

  • Journal of Neuroimmunology (3.159);
    \n
  • Cellular Immunology (1.893); and
    \n
  • The Journal of Neurovirology (1.858).<\/UL> <\/p>\n

    The journal has amassed a broad audience and is well received by scientists throughout the world, most notably in Asia and Europe, Dr. Gendelman said. <\/p>\n

    Both Dr. Gendelman and Taylor said such a feat could not be possible without the support of their editors, editorial board, society members and leadership. <\/p>\n
