\nThe tour is offered through the Time Travelers partnership, which provides free museum admission for medical center employees, students, and their immediate family with valid identification. The partnership also offers lectures, workshops and other events on the medical center campus.

\n<\/TABLE>“The Magic City” trolley tour is back as the Durham Museum offers a noon tour on Tuesday, Oct. 20 to highlight south Omaha’s rich history. <\/p>\n

The former city of South Omaha was founded in 1884 with the creation of the Union Stockyards. <\/p>\n

By 1890, it was the fastest growing city in the country and earned the nickname, “The Magic City.” <\/p>\n

Waves of immigrants flocked to the community to carve out a new life and work in the packinghouses, breweries, smelting plant and other businesses that grew from the area. <\/p>\n

This patchwork of cultures gave South Omaha — which was annexed by Omaha in 1915 — a truly unique history.<\/p>\n

The trolley will pick up passengers outside the Durham Research Center. Seating is limited to 20 people and reservations must be made in advance. <\/p>\n

All students and staff of UNMC, The Nebraska Medical Center and University of Nebraska Medical Center Physicians may attend. <\/p>\n
