\n<\/TABLE>UNMC radiologist Jud Gurney, M.D., will receive the prestigious Silver Medal Award from the Nebraska Radiological Society on Jan. 30 at a dinner at the Happy Hollow Club. <\/p>\n

The Silver Medal Award is the highest recognition given by the NRS. It was first given in 1982 and has only been awarded a total of nine times in the past 28 years.<\/p>\n

Dr. Gurney’s selection marks the sixth time that a UNMC radiologist has received the award.<\/p>\n

    \n<\/TABLE>“Clearly, Jud is very deserving of this award,” said Craig Walker, M.D., professor and chairman of the UNMC Department of Radiology. “He is recognized nationally and internationally as an expert in his field. To have six of the nine winners come from UNMC over the years, I think speaks volumes for our department.”<\/p>\n

    The Silver Medal reflects exceptional quality, service and excellence and emphasizes both professional and personal attributes. Criteria for receiving the Silver Medal Award include:
    \n

    • Practicing radiology in Nebraska for 15 or more years;
      \n
    • Having an outstanding record of accomplishments in radiology; and
      \n
    • Having an esteemed reputation as a radiologist in Nebraska and\/or nationally.<\/UL><\/p>\n

      A 1980 College of Medicine graduate, Dr. Gurney’s expertise is in chest radiology. <\/p>\n

      He joined UNMC’s radiology faculty in 1989 as an assistant professor and was elevated to associate professor in 1991. He served on the faculty of the Mayo Clinic from 2000 to 2002 before he returned to UNMC in 2002 and assumed his current position as the Charles A.
