That’s the theme behind a series in UNMC Today called “Lookin’ at U.” <\/p>\n

Each Thursday, we will randomly select a medical center employee to feature. <\/p>\n

This week, we feature Nicole Gallardo, administrative assistant in the department of pharmacy practice.<\/p>\n

Here, in her own words, are five fun facts about Nicole:<\/p>\n

  • I am from a small town in Germany and moved to the United States when I was 21 years old. I started learning English in fifth grade and speak it well enough now, that most people are surprised when I tell them I am not from the U.S.<\/p>\n

  • I met my husband Chris nine years ago and we have been married for seven years.<\/p>\n

  • We have two boys — Christian, 12, and Jaden, 3.<\/p>\n

  • We adopted Jaden from Guatemala and brought him home when he was 7 1\/2 months old. During the adoption process we were able to visit Guatemala twice and fell in love with the country and its beautiful people.<\/p>\n

  • I have been speaking German with my youngest since he was an infant. He understands every word and is starting to speak it more and more. Witnessing how easy it is for him to learn two languages simultaneously has been one of the most amazing experiences for me and increased my appreciation of multilingualism. <\/UL><\/p>\n
