\n<\/TABLE>UNMC’s second group of volunteers arrived in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, on Thursday. <\/p>\n

The 12-member team — which is composed of eight nurses, two physicians, one pharmacist and one physician assistant — will work for the next seven to 10 days at the University of Miami\/MediShare Hospital and other locations in Port-au-Prince. <\/p>\n

\nThe College of Public Health Student Association is sponsoring an “Adopt a Provider” Campaign to support UNMC’s Haitian Relief and Outreach Fund. <\/p>\n

The association hopes to raise $1,500 for each of the providers who deployed this week. Proceeds will support medical center volunteer efforts and help offset personal costs for the volunteers in Haiti. <\/p>\n

\n<\/TABLE>The team was debriefed Thursday at the MediShare hospital by two members of UNMC’s first volunteer team — David Young, M.D., an associate professor of surgery at UNMC, and Nick Hall, a nurse from The Nebraska Medical Center. <\/p>\n

Dr. Young and Hall have been in Haiti for about three weeks are set to return to the United States today, which marks the one-month anniversary of the magnitude 7.0 earthquake that killed about 230,000 people and wounded countless others. <\/p>\n

The Haitian government has declared today a national day of mourning in recognition of the one-month anniversary. <\/p>\n

The new volunteers will continue the work of Dr. Young, Hall and the UNMC volunteers who have helped those wounded by the massive earthquake. <\/p>\n<\/a><\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
