There’s still time to register for the National Institute of Aging’s regional meeting at UNMC on Thursday, April 8.<\/p>\n

Registration for the all-day meeting is free, can be completed online<\/a> and is open until March 25. <\/p>\n

The meeting will highlight grant support mechanisms and new science initiative. <\/p>\n

\nPresenters at the meeting will include:

  • Marie Bernard, M.D., deputy director of the NIA;
    \n
  • J. Taylor Harden, Ph.D., assistant to the director for special populations;
    \n
  • Robin Barr, D.Phil., director of extramural activities;
    \n
  • Sidney Stahl, Ph.D., chief of the Individual Behavioral Processes Branch; and
    \n
  • Steven Snyder, Ph.D., deputy director of the Division of Neuroscience.<\/UL>

    \n<\/TABLE>“This is a tremendous opportunity for faculty and students to learn about potential avenues in aging research, Alzheimer’s disease and health disparities among older adults, as well as for individuals interested in developing the careers of underserved and underrepresented investigators,” said M. Patricia Leuschen, Ph.D, assistant dean for research in the School of Allied Health Professions. “This also is an opportunity to show our expertise and beautiful facilities to other institutions’ scientists and to our guests from the NIH.”<\/p>\n

    The NIA staff will describe initiatives designed to recruit and retain emerging investigators in aging research. NIA also is interested in addressing needs and barriers to research careers for students, junior faculty and investigators from underserved and underrepresented groups. <\/p>\n

    In addition, staff will provide hand-on technical assistance in grant writing and assistance with soliciting advice on the design of new research opportunities.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
