Come to Tuesday&#8217;s Science Cafe"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\"><p>Tom Tape, M.D., professor and vice chairman for clinical affairs in the department of internal medicine at UNMC, will discuss &#8220;What does health care reform mean to us?&#8221; at the April 6 Science Cafe. <\/p>\n<p>His presentation, which begins at 7 p.m. at the Slowdown, 729 N. 14th St. in Omaha, will focus on understanding the impact of health care reform.<\/p>\n<p><TABLE border=\"0\" width=\"250\" cellspacing=\"10\" align=\"right\"><br \/>\n<TR><br \/>\n<TD><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/TapeThomas.gif\" border=\"0\" align=\"right\" alt=\"picture disc.\"><br \/>\n<\/TD><br \/>\n<\/TR><br \/>\n<TR><br \/>\n<TD><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size:7pt;line-height:150%\">Tom Tape, M.D.<\/span><br \/>\n<\/TD><br \/>\n<\/TR><br \/>\n<\/TABLE>Dr. Tape will discuss what this historic legislation means now and in the future, including how it impacts employees, employers, Medicare, Medicaid, heath care work force shortages and health insurance exchanges.<\/p>\n<p>Since last May, Dr. Tape has served on a joint review committee with UNMC, The Nebraska Medical Center and UNMC Physicians studying the health care reform process. He also is governor of the Nebraska chapter of the American College of Physicians. <\/p>\n<p>Dr. Tape received his bachelor degree from Dartmouth College in 1977 and medical degree from Washington University in St. Louis in 1981. He completed his residency in internal medicine and research fellowship in general internal medicine at the University of Rochester in New York. <\/p>\n<p>In 1986, he joined the internal medicine faculty at UNMC. His research has focused on better understanding how physicians make diagnostic and therapeutic medical decisions. <\/p>\n<p>Science Cafe is a free educational event sponsored by UNMC and other groups to increase the population&#8217;s science literacy. Hosted by UNMC, BioNebraska and the Nebraska Coalition for Lifesaving Cures, Science Cafes are held the first Tuesday of each month.<\/p>\n<p>A more scientifically literate populace is a goal in UNMC&#8217;s strategic plan.
