We are striving to come up with manageable, practical solutions that can be delivered in a short period of time.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The meeting attendees broke into three key subgroups &#8212; undergraduate education, post graduate education, and systems\/infrastructure building. Each subgroup has since continued to meet about funding and implementation. <\/p>\n<p>The overall goals include:<br \/>\n<UL><LI>Development of new models for collaboration between U.S. institutions and Haiti;<br \/>\n<LI>Developing and updating health sciences curricula to meet the needs of Haiti;<br \/>\n<LI>Using distance\/Web-based programs as well as simulation;<br \/>\n<LI>Rebuilding educational facilities;<br \/>\n<LI>Exploring the development of centers of excellence in strategic locations;<br \/>\n<LI>Emphasizing community-based learning and the infusion of public health into medical and nursing curricula;<br \/>\n<LI>Coordination of health care and supply delivery by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID); and<br \/>\n<LI>Exploring the possible use of a cruise ship as an educational facility until the medical facilities are rebuilt.<\/UL><\/p>\n<p><TABLE border=\"0\" width=\"260\" cellspacing=\"5\" cellpadding=\"3\" align=\"right\"><br \/>\n<TR><br \/>\n<TD><br \/>\n<TABLE border=\"1\" width=\"250\" cellspacing=\"1\" cellpadding=\"5\" bgcolor=\"EAE4A9\"><br \/>\n<TR><br \/>\n<TD><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">\n<font face=\"arial\"><br \/>\n<B><br \/>\nOther organizations<br \/>\n<\/B><br \/>\n<BR><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">\n<font face=\"arial\" size=\"2\"><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/app1.unmc.edu\/PublicAffairs\/TodaySite\/images\/siteimages\/HaitiMeeteingOrganizations310.pdf\" target=\"_blanK\" rel=\"noopener\">See a list<\/a> of all the organizations that participated in the meeting.<br \/>\n<\/P><br \/>\n<\/FONT><br \/>\n<\/TD><br \/>\n<\/TR><br \/>\n<\/TABLE><br \/>\n<\/TD><br \/>\n<\/TR><br \/>\n<\/TABLE>Also at the meeting were Ayman El-Mohandes, M.B.B.Ch., M.D., M.P.H., dean of the College of Public Health and co-chairman of the Post Graduate Education Committee, and Magda Peck, Sc.D., associate dean of community engagement and public health practice in the College of Public Health and a member of the Infrastructure Committee.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We want a new beginning,&#8221; Dr. El-Mohandes said. &#8220;This is not about getting Haiti back to where it was before the earthquake.
