\n<\/TABLE>UNMC vice chancellor Rubens Pamies, M.D., and longtime medical center supporter Richard “Dick” Holland will receive Men of Honor Awards from the 100 Black Men of Omaha, Inc. <\/p>\n

The fifth annual black-tie gala event, which will be held Saturday, May 15 at the Hilton Omaha, recognizes individuals whose service to the community fulfills the mission of the organization.<\/p>\n

Besides promoting economic prosperity, educational advancement and mentoring programs, the 100 Black Men organization seeks to improve the quality of life of its community.<\/p>\n

“When you look at what and how our community has benefited from Dr. Pamies and Dick Holland, we felt it was important to recognize, salute and thank them for their service to the metropolitan area,” said Tim Clark, president of the 100 Black Men.<\/p>\n

Dr. Pamies was nominated for his long-standing support of the organization, and his efforts to reduce health disparities and for his recent leadership of UNMC’s response to the devastating earthquake in his native Haiti. <\/p>\n

\n<\/TABLE>Under his leadership, UNMC sent its first deployment directly into Port-au-Prince just days after the earthquake. Dr. Pamies is coordinating additional deployments and is working with national and international leaders on a long-term strategy to re-build Haiti’s medical education and infrastructure.<\/p>\n

Dick Holland was nominated for his philanthropic efforts to improve the arts and educational communities as well as his and his late wife, Mary’s, commitment to improve the lives of children.<\/p>\n

Holland contributed financially to the construction of the twin research towers at UNMC. He also helped found the Nebraska Coalition for Lifesaving Cures, which promotes and supports life-saving research at UNMC and throughout Nebraska.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
