The following is a list of recent achievements, activities and happenings involving UNMC staff, faculty and students:<\/p>\n

Cate Jones-Hazledine, Ph.D.,<\/B> a behavioral health specialist at the Munroe-Meyer Institute, along MMI AmeriCorps members Corissa Kesterson<\/B> and Tara Hindman<\/B> organized a S.T.A.N.D. (Students Taking A New Direction) Against Bullying event<\/a> at the Gordon-Rushville Middle School in Rushville on April 23. More than 150 students signed an anti-bullying pledge. <\/p>\n

\n<\/TABLE>The 2010 “10 Outstanding Young Omaha Teens” list included two teens who have volunteered with the UNMC Munroe-Meyer Institute’s Camp Munroe. Hannah Mergen,<\/B> a senior at Omaha Marian High School, has volunteered since age 12. She assists with feeding, seating and other personal care needs so the campers can enjoy activities. Marissa Ruhl,<\/B> a senior at Omaha Westside High School, has earned more than 200 community service hours and has made autism awareness the focus of her senior project.<\/p>\n

Jami Fulwider,<\/B> instructor at UNMC College of Nursing Lincoln Division and two division alums, Susan Hays<\/B> and Carrie Davidson,<\/B> were part of a group of Lincolnites who went to Haiti in March for a medical mission. The trip, which was organized by the Grace Chapel church in Lincoln, was planned before the Jan. 12 earthquake in Haiti. Each group member brought a suitcase full of health care supplies, clothes, personal care items and toys for Haitian children.<\/p>\n

Ken Follett, M.D.,<\/B> professor of neurosurgery, recently received the Hand in Hand Honor Award from the American Parkinson Disease Association in recognition of his significant contributions in the fight against Parkinson’s. <\/p>\n

The UNMC College of Nursing<\/B> celebrated a construction milestone Thursday as the last beam of the Center for Nursing Science in Omaha was put into place. Faculty, staff and students signed the beam before it was put into place. The center is expected to open in October.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
