He replaces Laurel Preheim, M.D., who will retire after serving more than 35 years in the VA health care system, the past eight years as chief of medicine. <\/p>\n<p>Dr. Gorby also will be the associate chairman of medicine for Veterans Affairs at UNMC and the Creighton University School of Medicine. <\/p>\n<p>He has been an infectious disease expert and staff physician at the Omaha VA Medical Center for more than 20 years. <\/p>\n<p>Dr. Gorby is the program director for the adult infectious disease fellowship at UNMC. In 2002, he became co-director of the Center for Biopreparedness Education (now the Center for Preparedness Education), which educates Nebraska health care providers and first responders about potential terrorism and other public health threats. <\/p>\n<!-- <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"\/secure-location.php\" title=\"Cmk OLK lH fWX  s    Db\">Cmk OLK lH fWX  s    Db<\/a>
