This month updated versions of the UNMC cultural competency training modules will begin to be rolled out to medical center employees. <\/p>\n

Below, Shireen Rajaram, Ph.D., director of UNMC’s Center for Reducing Health Disparities in the College of Public Health and the leader of a committee that designed the training, tells us more about the training modules. <\/p>\n

\n<\/TABLE>What are they?<\/B> <\/p>\n

They are online training modules that help UNMC employees improve their collective awareness of and responsiveness to the cultural differences they will experience with patients, coworkers, students and others.<\/p>\n

Two modules — one for those who interact with patients and another for those don’t — will be introduced to the campus. Employees and faculty will participate in the training in a manner similar to their annual online safety and workplace conduct training. <\/p>\n

Such training aims to support a UNMC Strategic Plan initiative to foster a more culturally competent workforce.<\/p>\n

When will I take them?<\/B> <\/p>\n

Employees will be assigned the new course based on when they completed the old course. For example, those that finished the course in January and February last year will be assigned the new course in January of this year. Likewise, those that took the training in June last year will be assigned the new course the end of May this year.<\/p>\n
