\n<\/TABLE>Bradley Britigan, M.D., Taylor Professor and chairman of the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, has been selected as the new dean for the UNMC College of Medicine. <\/p>\n

The appointment, which is subject to approval of the University of Nebraska Board of Regents at its March 11 meeting, was announced by UNMC Chancellor Harold M. Maurer, M.D. It is effective July 1.<\/p>\n

“Brad has an outstanding record of achievement and experience in education, patient care and funded thematic research,” Dr. Maurer said. “I would call him a triple threat. He’s outstanding in each of those areas. People today are usually more targeted in one or two but not all three.”<\/p>\n

Dr. Britigan’s selection to the prestigious American Society of Clinical Investigation (ASCI) — an honor society of the nation’s top physician scientists — and his strong financial management at Cincinnati are evidence of his multiple talents, Dr. Maurer said. <\/p>\n

Dr. Britigan has 24 years in academic medicine — 17 years at the University of Iowa, where he was director of infectious diseases — and the past seven years at Cincinnati. He also has a 23-year association with the Department of Veterans Affairs as a staff physician and researcher. <\/p>\n

As chairman of internal medicine at Cincinnati, Dr. Britigan oversees a $90 million budget and about 500 employees. <\/p>\n

“My biggest goal will be to continue the tremendous growth and success at UNMC that has taken place under Dr. Maurer and Deans (John) Gollan and (Rod) Markin, while at the same time addressing the fiscal challenges that all medical schools are currently facing,” Dr. Britigan said.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
