{"id":37968,"date":"2011-03-16T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2011-03-16T05:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2011\/03\/16\/primary-care-research-and-rural-medicine-rise-in-u-s-news-rankings\/"},"modified":"2022-09-02T20:16:41","modified_gmt":"2022-09-03T01:16:41","slug":"primary-care-research-and-rural-medicine-rise-in-u-s-news-rankings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2011\/03\/16\/primary-care-research-and-rural-medicine-rise-in-u-s-news-rankings\/","title":{"rendered":"Primary care, research and rural medicine rise in U.S.News rankings"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\"><p>UNMC&#8217;s primary care, research and rural medicine education programs all moved up in the 2012 U.S.News &#038; World Report rankings of the nation&#8217;s top graduate schools.<\/p>\n<p>In the latest rankings:<br \/>\n<UL><LI>Primary care program ranked seventh, up from 14th last year;<br \/>\n<LI>Research tied for 66th, up from 71st last year; and<br \/>\n<LI>Rural medicine tied for 15th, up from 17th last year.<\/UL><\/p>\n<p><TABLE border=\"0\" width=\"260\" cellspacing=\"5\" cellpadding=\"3\" align=\"right\"><br \/>\n<TR><br \/>\n<TD><br \/>\n<TABLE border=\"1\" width=\"250\" cellspacing=\"1\" cellpadding=\"5\" bgcolor=\"EAE4A9\"><br \/>\n<TR><br \/>\n<TD><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">\n<font face=\"arial\"><br \/>\n<B><br \/>\nHow schools are ranked<br \/>\n<\/B><br \/>\n<BR><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">\n<font face=\"arial\" size=\"2\"><br \/>\nThe U.S. News rankings on primary care are based on two types of data: expert opinion about program quality and statistical indicators that measure the quality of a school&#8217;s faculty, research and students. <\/p>\n<p>Rankings for the health specialties &#8212; including rural medicine, nursing and physician assistant &#8212; are based solely on the ratings of academic experts. <\/p>\n<p>UNMC officials encourage students to use many sources &#8212; including rankings &#8212; when selecting a graduate or professional program.<br \/>\n<\/P><br \/>\n<\/FONT><br \/>\n<\/TD><br \/>\n<\/TR><br \/>\n<\/TABLE><br \/>\n<\/TD><br \/>\n<\/TR><br \/>\n<\/TABLE>&#8220;These are three of our most important programs and it&#8217;s gratifying to see them move up in these rankings,&#8221; said UNMC Chancellor Harold M. Maurer, M.D. &#8220;This is truly great news for the UNMC community and Nebraska as a whole.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>Dave Crouse, Ph.D., interim vice chancellor for academic affairs and dean for graduate studies, echoed Dr. Maurer&#8217;s comments. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s great to see these programs make such great advances in this year&#8217;s rankings,&#8221; Dr. Crouse said. &#8220;Combine these developments with the solid rankings of several other UNMC programs and it&#8217;s apparent that our efforts to provide a world-class educational environment for our students are paying off.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The rankings are reported in the magazine&#8217;s 2012 edition of America&#8217;s Best Graduate Schools, which is available soon on newstands. The online edition includes longer lists of some specialty rankings, as well as additional school directory information. <\/p>\n<p>Other programs that were recognized in this year&#8217;s rankings are:<\/p>\n<p><UL><LI>The School of Allied Health Professions&#8217; physician assistant program, which tied for 16th; and<br \/>\n<LI>The College of Nursing&#8217;s master&#8217;s degree program, which ranked 36th.<\/UL><\/p>\n<p>The following UNMC programs also were included in the guidebook and\/or online edition, but were not newly ranked:<br \/>\n<UL><LI>The College of Pharmacy ranked 29th; and<br \/>\n<LI>The School of Allied Health Professions&#8217; physical therapy program ranked 33rd.<\/UL> <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>UNMC&#8217;s
