or gum disease &#8212; could reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease in post-menopausal women.<\/p>\n<p><TABLE border=\"0\" width=\"250\" cellspacing=\"10\" align=\"right\"><br \/>\n<TR><br \/>\n<TD><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/jbpayne311.jpg\" border=\"0\" align=\"right\" alt=\"picture disc.\"><br \/>\n<\/TD><br \/>\n<\/TR><br \/>\n<TR><br \/>\n<TD><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size:7pt;line-height:150%\">Jeffrey Payne, D.D.S. <\/span><br \/>\n<\/TD><br \/>\n<\/TR><br \/>\n<\/TABLE>New research recently released by the UNMC College of Dentistry has found that low doses of doxycycline reduces systemic inflammation in post-menopausal women. <\/p>\n<p>Systemic inflammation has been associated with coronary artery disease &#8212; a leading cause of death among post-menopausal women.<\/p>\n<p>The research was published as the cover story of the March issue of the Journal of the American Dental Association.<\/p>\n<p>The study, led by Jeffrey Payne, D.D.S., associate dean for research at the UNMC College of Dentistry and co-investigator Lorne Golub, D.M.D., a professor in the department of oral biology and pathology at the Stony Brook University School of Dental Medicine in New York, also found that HDL levels, or good cholesterol, rose in women who were more than five years post-menopausal.<\/p>\n<p><TABLE border=\"0\" width=\"260\" cellspacing=\"5\" cellpadding=\"3\" align=\"right\"><br \/>\n<TR><br \/>\n<TD><br \/>\n<TABLE border=\"1\" width=\"250\" cellspacing=\"1\" cellpadding=\"5\" bgcolor=\"EAE4A9\"><br \/>\n<TR><br \/>\n<TD><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">\n<font face=\"arial\"><br \/>\n<B><br \/>\nWant to see more?<br \/>\n<\/B><br \/>\n<BR><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">\n<font face=\"arial\" size=\"2\"><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/jada.ada.org\/cgi\/content\/full\/142\/3\/262\" target=\"_blanK\" rel=\"noopener\">Read the full abstract online<\/a>.<br \/>\n<\/P><br \/>\n<\/FONT><br \/>\n<\/TD><br \/>\n<\/TR><br \/>\n<\/TABLE><br \/>\n<\/TD><br \/>\n<\/TR><br \/>\n<\/TABLE>&#8220;Inflammation is a major factor in the initiation and progression of cardiovascular disease,&#8221;
