Lynell Klassen, M.D., professor and chairman of the department of internal medicine, has been inducted as a master of the American College of Physicians (ACP).<\/p>\n

There have only been about 1,150 masterships awarded in the 96-year history of the ACP. Only five other Nebraskan physicians have received the distinction. <\/p>\n

\n<\/TABLE>“Lyn is a master of the art of diagnosis and treatment and an accomplished scientist,” said Rod Markin, M.D., Ph.D., interim dean of the UNMC College of Medicine. “This is a richly deserved reward.”<\/p>\n

The masters are a small group of highly distinguished physicians who:
\n

  • Exhibit preeminence in practice or medical research;
    \n
  • Hold positions of high honor; and\/or
    \n
  • Making significant contributions to medical science or the art of medicine.<\/UL><\/p>\n

    The American College of Physicians is the second-largest physician group in the United States. ACP members include 130,000 internal medicine physicians (internists), related subspecialists and medical students. Internists specialize in the prevention, detection and treatment of illness in adults. <\/p>\n

    Other Nebraska physicians to receive the master honor are:
    \n

    • John Benson, M.D., UNMC professor of internal medicine;
      \n
    • Fred Paustian, M.D., legendary UNMC physician;
      \n
    • Robert Recker, M.D., an Omaha internist; and
      \n
    • Rowen Zetterman, M.D., former UNMC faculty member and current dean of the Creighton University School of Medicine.<\/UL><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
