Today we meet Marcie Richmond, a rising third-year medical student.<\/p>\n

    What is your best memory from your time at UNMC?<\/B><\/p>\n

    One of my best friends Andy and I found a book in the library called “The Brain Stem of the Cat.” Not only did this seem like an odd book for a medical library, but it is huge. This struck us as hilarious. We wanted to share the joy of the “cat book” with our other friends, so we would wait until a classmate got up from his or her study spot to use the restroom and then grab the book off the shelf and leave it open on top of our friend’s books. We then would photograph the bemused looks of our classmates as they found the cat book. <\/p>\n

    Our four brand values are leadership, commitment to excellence, working together and being a trusted resource. Pick one and tell us a time you witnessed it embodied at UNMC.<\/b><\/p>\n

    Med students have a bad reputation for “gunning,” i.e. trying to fight our way to the top of the class without regard for how it affects others. However, the Class of 2013 is driven to excellence, not just as individuals, but as friends and as a group. Classmates are willing to put down their own books to help explain a concept to a friend, or even just listen to someone vent about the stress. I love my class.<\/p>\n

    List three things people may not know about you. <\/b><\/p>\n

      \n
    • I grew up in Nebraska, but I was born in New Hampshire and lived in New York, Michigan, Missouri and Virginia. I’ve also lived in Iowa, Ecuador and Maryland.\n
    • I went to Obama’s inauguration. That’s the coldest I’ve ever been in my life, but it was totally worth it!\n
    • In high school we had a pet rabbit who was litter box trained and ran around our house like a cat. <\/UL>
