Our enrollment increase is indicative of how we&#039;ve been successful in attracting more students,&rdquo; said David Crouse, Ph.D., interim vice chancellor for academic affairs and dean of graduate studies. &ldquo;We meet their needs by developing new academic programs when the need arises.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\">\n&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\">\n<span style=\"color: black\">&ldquo;This year, we&#039;ve developed several new programs in nursing and public health. We&#039;re committed to meeting the health care workforce needs of Nebraska, and this will never change,&rdquo; Dr. Crouse said.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\">\n&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\">\n<span style=\"color: black\">Listed below are enrollment highlights from UNMC. Visiting students&nbsp;and others enrolled in small programs aren&rsquo;t included in the units and colleges below.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\">\n&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\">\n<b>Graduate Studies<\/b><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\">\nEnrollment in the nearly all doctoral and masters programs within Graduate Studies also continues to grow. Although distributed within all of the other colleges, the 12 doctoral &nbsp;programs now have a total of 369 students compared to 304 last year &#8212; a 21 percent increase.<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\">\n&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\">\n<b><span style=\"color: black\">College of Dentistry<\/span><\/b><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\">\n<span style=\"color: black\">The College of Dentistry admitted 46 new dental students as well as 24 new dental hygiene students, bringing enrollment in the college to 269, including 36 graduate and post graduate students. This year&#039;s GPA for entering dentistry students is 3.86 and the entering dental hygiene class had a 3.45 GPA. There were 843applicants for the 46 slots in this year&#039;s dental class. <\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\">\n&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\">\n<b><span style=\"color: black\">College of Medicine<\/span><\/b><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\">\n<span style=\"color: black\">This year there are 130 new medical students entering their first year of medical school, bringing the total enrollment for the college at 497, with six enrolled in its doctoral program. The new students were selected from a total of 1,526 applicants, one of the largest numbers of applicants in the last 17 years.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\">\n&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\">\n<b><span style=\"color: black\">College of Nursing<\/span><\/b><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\">\n<span style=\"color: black\">A total of 1,207 students are enrolled in the seven undergraduate and graduate nursing programs in Omaha, Lincoln, Kearney, Scottsbluff and Norfolk. The college received 755 qualified applicants this year for 381 slots in its bachelor&rsquo;s degree in nursing programs. The incoming students&#039; GPA is 3.6 based on the students&#039; first two years in undergraduate college.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\">\n&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\">\n<b><span style=\"color: black\">College of Pharmacy<\/span><\/b><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\">\n<span style=\"color: black\">Sixty new students with a GPA of 3.42 were accepted into the College of Pharmacy&#039;s Doctor of Pharmacy degree (Pharm.D.) program. The new students bring the total enrollment in the four-year program to 235 students.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\">\n&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\">\n<b><span style=\"color: black\">College of Public Health<\/span><\/b><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\">\n<span style=\"color: black\">Enrollment in the College of&nbsp;Public Health this fall is 147, which includes 34 doctoral students, &nbsp;89 master of public health students and 24 certificate of public health students. This results in a 33 percent increase in enrollment over fall 2010. <\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\">\n&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\">\n<b><span style=\"color: black\">School of Allied Health Professions<\/span><\/b><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\">\n<span style=\"color: black\">For the 2011-12 academic year, there are 184 new SAHP students. Total enrollment in the school&rsquo;s traditional programs is 385 students and 291 students enrolled through distance education degree programs. There were 822 applicants this year &#8212; a 6.5 percent increase over last year.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\">\n&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\">\n<b><span style=\"color: black\">Munroe-Meyer Institute<\/span><\/b><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\">\n<span style=\"color: black\">MMI provided interdisciplinary training and practicum experiences to 167 students in the 2010-2011 academic year. Trainees included seven undergraduate students, 60 master&#039;s level students, 50 doctoral level interns, and 50 post-doctoral fellows.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\">\n&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\">\n<i><span style=\"color: black;font-size: 10pt\">Through world-class research and patient care, UNMC generates&nbsp;breakthroughs that make life better for people throughout Nebraska and beyond.
