The title of the talk is, <\/span><span style=\"color: black\">&ldquo;Time for Community Action Addressing Racial Disparities in Birth Outcomes!&rdquo; <\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"color: black\">The talk will be held on Monday, Sept. 19, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Turning Point Campus (Building T), 3223 N. 45th St. (45th Street between Wirt and Bedford), Omaha.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"color: black\">Dr. Govine&rsquo;s presentation is the first of four free Community Based Learning Forums organized by the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/alliedhealth\/\">University of Nebraska Medical Center&rsquo;s School of Allied Health Professions<\/a><span style=\"color: black\"> to help grow healthy families in north Omaha. The remaining forums are planned for November, February and April. <\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"color: black\">The forums are one facet of a UNMC Health and Human Services-funded research\/outreach project to support healthy African-American pregnancies, said <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/alliedhealth\/turman.htm\">Jack Turman, Ph.D.,<\/a><span style=\"color: black\"> program director for physical<\/span><span style=\"color: black\"> therapy education in UNMC&rsquo;s School of Allied Health Professions,<\/span><span style=\"color: black\"> who conducts research on <\/span>how community-based strategies can reduce health disparities in adverse birth outcomes.<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"color: black\">In addition to the forums, the project also provides peer pregnancy support and trains community health advocacy leaders.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\"><b>&nbsp;<\/b><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"color: black\">Dr. Govine is the former national education director of the <\/span><em><span style=\"font-style: normal\">National Association for the Advancement of Colored People<\/span><\/em><i><span> (<\/span><em><span style=\"font-style: normal\">NAACP),<\/span><\/em><span> and <\/span>chief executive officer of <span style=\"color: black\">Govine Consulting, Inc., Los Angeles, and national consultant on race relations and community development.<\/span><\/i><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"color: black\">Food will be served. <\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"color: black\">For more information on the event, contact Fran Higgins at 402-559-6680 or visit blog.unmc.edu\/connections\/.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\"><i><span style=\"font-size: 9pt;color: black\">Through world-class research and patient care, UNMC generates breakthroughs that make life better for people throughout Nebraska and beyond.
