Education is one of the four pillars of UNMC’s mission and our students are the lifeblood of that aspect of campus life. <\/p>\n

In UNMC Today’s Student Spotlight, we get to know some of these students, who will become tomorrow’s health care professionals. <\/p>\n

Today we meet Elizabeth Kix, a graduate assistant and masters of public health student in Community Health Education.<\/p>\n

    What is your best memory from your time at UNMC? <\/B> <\/p>\n

    In October, I attended the 2011 Public Health Association of Nebraska conference. I presented my most recent research and met with and learned from public health professionals from across the state. The relationships I developed at the conference will stay with me long after I leave my program here at UNMC.<\/p>\n

    Our four brand values are leadership, commitment to excellence, working together and being a trusted resource. Pick one and tell us a time you witnessed it embodied at UNMC. <\/B> <\/p>\n

    I attended a Schwartz Center Rounds this fall lead by a physician, social worker, nurse, ethics adviser and chaplain regarding treating patients with various cultural backgrounds and religious beliefs. The men and women who sat on the panel talked about one specific case, and I was amazed at how well they worked together to bring comfort to the patient and his family. In challenging situations, it is important to remember that working together with various other health professionals benefits the target audience and allows for personal growth and development.<\/p>\n

    • Wooden cooking and eating utensils give me the heebie-jeebies.
      \n
    • Every time I buy something new, I have to throw something old out. Becoming a hoarder is my biggest fear.

    • When I lived in northern Finland in 2008, I ate reindeer on a regular basis. … I can’t say that I loved it, but it wasn’t the most awful thing I have ever tasted. But, I didn’t like the idea of eating Rudolph.<\/UL><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
