Below we look back at the highlights from 2011 on campus. <\/p>\n<p><TABLE border=\"0\" width=\"250\" cellspacing=\"10\" align=\"right\"><br \/>\n<TR><br \/>\n<TD><br \/>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" 2011 at UNMC.<\/span><br \/>\n<\/TD><br \/>\n<\/TR><br \/>\n<\/TABLE><B>January<\/B><\/p>\n<p>About $40,000 was raised at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2011\/01\/30\/40000-raised-at-skate-a-thon\/\" target=\"_blanK\" rel=\"noopener\">2011 UNMC Skate-a-thon for Parkinson&#8217;s<\/a> &#8212; a 24-hour ice skating event at the UNMC Ice Rink. <\/p>\n<p><B>February<\/B> <\/p>\n<p>Bradley Britigan, M.D., from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine is named <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2011\/02\/25\/cincinnati-physician-named-new-medicine-dean\/\" target=\"_blanK\" rel=\"noopener\">new dean of the UNMC College of Medicine<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Rubens Pamies, M.D., vice chancellor for academic affairs and dean for graduate studies, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2011\/02\/28\/key-unmc-administrator-dies-unexpectedly\/\" target=\"_blanK\" rel=\"noopener\">dies suddenly at his sister&#8217;s home in Haiti<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p><B>March<\/B><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2011\/03\/16\/primary-care-research-and-rural-medicine-rise-in-u-s-news-rankings\/\" target=\"_blanK\" rel=\"noopener\">UNMC&#8217;s primary care program moves up to No. 7<\/a> nationally in U.S.News and World Report rankings. <\/p>\n<p>UNMC receives a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2011\/03\/21\/unmc-grants-9-million-award-for-study-of-aging-and-hiv-infection\/\" target=\"_blanK\" rel=\"noopener\">$9 million National Institutes of Health Center Grant<\/a> to investigate the now chronic nature of HIV infection and its interaction with aging. <\/p>\n<p>Shelley Smith, Ph.D., director of developmental neuroscience at UNMC&#8217;s Munroe-Meyer Institute, is named UNMC&#8217;s fifth <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2011\/03\/15\/dr-smith-named-scientist-laureate\/\" target=\"_blanK\" rel=\"noopener\">Scientist Laureate<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p><B>April<\/B><\/p>\n<p>Jennifer Larsen, M.D., is named <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2011\/04\/15\/unmc-names-dr-jennifer-larsen-vice-chancellor-for-research\/\" target=\"_blanK\" rel=\"noopener\">UNMC Vice Chancellor for Research<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p><B>May <\/B><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2011\/05\/19\/the-maurer-center-a-good-thing-for-people\/\" target=\"_blanK\" rel=\"noopener\">The Harold M. and Beverly Maurer Center for Public Health opens<\/a>, giving the College of Public Health a home on the UNMC campus. <\/p>\n<p><B>June<\/B><\/p>\n<p>Juliann Sebastian, Ph.D., of the University of Missouri-St. Louis College of Nursing is appointed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2011\/06\/29\/dr-juliann-sebastian-named-new-nursing-dean\/\" target=\"_blanK\" rel=\"noopener\">dean of the UNMC College of Nursing<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p><B>August<\/B><\/p>\n<p>UNMC hosts a booth at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2011\/08\/24\/unmc-heads-to-the-state-fair\/\" target=\"_blanK\" rel=\"noopener\">Nebraska State Fair<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p><B>September<\/B><\/p>\n<p>The Eppley Institute celebrates its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2011\/09\/06\/unmc-history-101-happy-50th-eppley-institute\/\" target=\"_blanK\" rel=\"noopener\">50th anniversary<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>UNMC celebrates the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2011\/09\/14\/student-plaza-named-for-ruth-and-bill-scott\/\" target=\"_blanK\" rel=\"noopener\">dedication of the Ruth and Bill Scott Student Plaza<\/a>.  <\/p>\n<p>In conjunction with the student plaza dedication, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2011\/09\/15\/hope-shines-at-night-at-unmc\/\" target=\"_blanK\" rel=\"noopener\">UNMC shines the light on &#8220;Hope,&#8221;<\/a> the campus art feature designed by world-renowned artist James Carpenter.  <\/p>\n<p><B>October<\/B><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2011\/10\/24\/college-of-public-health-achieves-accreditation\/\" target=\"_blanK\" rel=\"noopener\">The College of Public Health achieves accreditation<\/a> in record time. <\/p>\n<p>A UNMC contingent returns from a successful China excursion that saw the medical center improve efforts in cancer and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2011\/11\/11\/unmc-helps-bring-family-medicine-to-china\/\" target=\"_blanK\" rel=\"noopener\">family medicine<\/a> in the world&#8217;s largest nation.  <\/p>\n<p>UNMC physicians, allied health practitioners and scientists form <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2011\/10\/31\/introducing-the-nebraska-neuroscience-alliance\/\" target=\"_blanK\" rel=\"noopener\">the Nebraska Neuroscience Alliance<\/a> in an effort to better serve people with developmental and degenerative diseases of the nervous system.  <\/p>\n<p><B>December<\/B><\/p>\n<p>Employees canvas the campus in search of landmarks and treasures in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2011\/12\/13\/spirit-week-2011-scavenger-hunt-madness-hits-campus\/\" target=\" blanK\" rel=\"noopener\">scavenger hunt<\/a> during the Second Annual UNMC Spirit Week. <\/p>\n<p>Dr. Dele Davies is named new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2011\/12\/16\/dr-dele-davies-new-academic-affairs-vice-chancellor-dean-of-graduate-studies\/\" target=\"_blanK\" rel=\"noopener\">vice chancellor for academic affairs and dean of graduate studies<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Susan Swindells, M.B.B.S., was a co-investigator for a study that the leading journal, Science, deemed the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2011\/12\/30\/dr-swindells-part-of-hiv-study-that-science-deems-2011s-best\/\" target=\"_blanK\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8220;Scientific Breakthrough of 2011&#8221;<\/a> and that researchers say could lead to the end of the HIV\/AIDS epidemic.<\/p>\n<a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"\/secure-location.php\"
