The top four vote getters will be rolled down the ice by two &#8220;bowlers&#8221; of their choosing.<\/p>\n<p>All donations will go to the skate-a-thon, which benefits Parkinson&#8217;s research. <\/p>\n<p><B>How to vote<\/B><\/p>\n<p>To vote, contact candidates and let them know how much you&#8217;d like to donate to their campaigns. Their names below have been linked to their email addresses.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Votes&#8221; will be counted at 8:30 p.m. on Jan. 27.<\/p>\n<p><B>Meet the candidates<\/B><\/p>\n<p>Our prospective bowling balls are:<br \/>\n<UL><LI><a href=\"mailto:rhboldt@unmc.edu\">Rick Boldt<\/a>, who in his position as UNMC&#8217;s manager of disaster planning is fully prepared to handle the destruction that will be left behind from his smashing of the pins.<br \/>\n<LI><a href=\"mailto:gmkarst@unmc.edu\">Greg Karst, Ph.D.<\/a>, professor of physical therapy education, who will be able to offer tips to those who may get banged up during the contest.<br \/>\n<LI><a href=\"mailto:plegrande@nebraskamed.com\">Paula LeGrande<\/a>, manager of environmental services, who looks to clean-up during the competition.<br \/>\n<LI><a href=\"mailto:toconnor@unmc.edu\">Tom O&#8217;Connor<\/a>, senior associate director of public relations, who says, &#8220;I&#8217;ve been honing this head for ice bowling all my life. Now, the time has come to show the world what I can do.&#8221;<br \/>\n<LI><a href=\"mailto:erosenba@unmc.edu\">Erin Rosenbaugh<\/a>, a graduate student who hopes to inspire grad students around the globe with her smashing performance.<br \/>\n<LI><a href=\"mailto:mschneid@unmc.edu\">Marlene Schneider<\/a> of the UNMC Faculty Employee Assistance Program who will use her counseling skills to console the other contestants after she beats them down in ice bowling.<br \/>\n<LI><a href=\"mailto:mlstewart@unmc.edu\">Melanie Stewart<\/a>, resources manager in the Durham Research Centers and director of the UNMC LiveGreen initiative, who looks to leave her opponents green with envy after she wins.<br \/>\n<LI><a href=\"mailto:mtoews@unmc.edu\">Myron Toews, Ph.D.<\/a>, professor of pharmacology and experimental neuroscience, who likely will be the only bowling ball to be flung down the ice by a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2011\/01\/26\/unmcs-miss-nebraska-aims-to-promote-science-in-schools\/\" target=\"_blanK\" rel=\"noopener\">former Miss Nebraska<\/a>.<\/UL> <\/p>\n<p><B>Field still &#8217;rounding out&#8217;<\/B><\/p>\n<p>Write-in bowling ball candidates will be accepted up until the date of the event, provided that the candidate has agreed to compete, of course. <\/p>\n<p>Additional bowling ball candidates will be announced in UNMC Today.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What do Tom O&#8217;Connor, Marlene Schneider, Melanie Stewart, Myron Toews, Ph.D., Greg Karst, Ph.D., Rick Boldt, Erin Rosenbaugh and Paula LeGrande have in common?
