\nWorkplace dignity is the topic of the next Science Café, at 6:30 p.m., Feb. 2, at red9, 9th<\/sup> and M Streets in Lincoln. Attendees will hear from Kristen Lucas, Ph.D., an assistant professor in the department of communication studies at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She will discuss what workplace dignity is, how it is enhanced or undermined through day-to-day communicative interactions at work sites, and how it ultimately impacts employee performance and well-being.<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

\nDr. Lucas’ research and teaching specialties center on workplace dignity, particularly as it relates to communicative interactions and professional identity. She has published her research in journals such as Management Communication Quarterly and the Journal of Applied Communication Research.<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

\nMost recently, Dr. Lucas has initiated research examining workplace dignity from a cross-cultural perspective, including European and Asian contexts. She regularly teaches workshops on workplace dignity, as well as semester-long university courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. <\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

\nScience Cafe is a free educational event sponsored by UNMC and other groups to increase the population’s science literacy. Hosted by UNMC, <\/font><\/font>Bio Nebraska<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/u><\/a> and the <\/font><\/font>Nebraska Coalition for Lifesaving Cures<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/u><\/a>, Science Cafes are held the first Tuesday of each month in Omaha and one Thursday every other month in Lincoln.<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

\nA more scientifically literate populace is a goal in UNMC’s strategic plan. The goal of the committee has been to introduce and get young adults interested in science by presenting it in a casual setting.<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n
