Below is a list of achievements, activities and happenings involving UNMC staff, faculty and students.<\/p>\n

Antonia Correa,<\/B> outreach project specialist in the UNMC College of Public Health’s Center for Reducing Health Disparities, was a key organizer for the annual National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) walk. Read more about the NAMI effort<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Ira Combs,<\/B> community nurse coordinator in the UNMC College of Public Health’s Center for Reducing Health Disparities, organized UNMC’s presence in the annual Juneteenth parade in North Omaha. Juneteenth<\/a> marks the anniversary of when slaves learned of their freedom.<\/p>\n

Corrine Hanson, Ph.D.,<\/B> assistant professor of medical nutrition education in the School of Allied Health Professions, has been selected as a winner of the 2011 Huddleson Award. The award honors a registered dietitian who was lead author of a peer-reviewed article that made an important contribution to the profession and was published in the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics during the calendar year. Her publication was “Vitamin D Status and Associations in Newborn Formula-Fed Infants during Initial Hospitalization.”<\/p>\n

Dele Davies, M.D.,<\/B> vice chancellor for academic affairs and dean of graduate studies, recently received the 2012 William B. Weil Jr. Endowed Distinguished Pediatric Faculty Award of the College of Human Medicine at Michigan State University. Before he came to UNMC earlier this year, Dr. Davies was chairman of pediatrics and human development and associate director of a graduate and post graduate training program in perinatal epidemiology at Michigan State University.<\/p>\n

UNMC Chancellor Harold M. Maurer, M.D., and nine other medical center leaders<\/B> will visit nine communities in western Nebraska next week. During the annual trip, the team will meet with community leaders in Alliance, Broken Bow, Chadron, Lexington, McCook, North Platte, Scottsbluff, Sidney and Valentine.<\/p>\n mfYSv qgF zE<\/a><\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
