UNMC employees are invited to join Toby Jurovics, Joslyn Museum’s chief curator & Richard and Mary Holland Curator of American Western Art, on Tuesday, July 24 for an illustrated talk on two new exhibits at the museum.<\/p>\n

The presentation starts at noon in the Sorrell Center, Room 2014. <\/p>\n

The exhibitions are “THE GREAT WEST ILLUSTRATED: Celebrating 150 Years of the Union Pacific Railroad”<\/a> and “CONTESTED TERRAIN: Painting the Modern Landscape,”<\/a> which are both on display at the museum through Sept. 16.<\/p>\n

About the exhibits<\/B><\/p>\n

In 1868, the Union Pacific Railroad commissioned photographer Andrew J. Russell to document the construction of the transcontinental railroad between Omaha and Salt Lake City, published the following year as The Great West Illustrated. See prints from this remarkable album and other rare Russell photographs from this commission, many of which have never been published or exhibited.<\/p>\n

The “CONTESTED TERRAIN” exhibition includes work from the past decade by nationally recognized landscape painters whose art addresses our imprint on the landscape. <\/p>\n
