As he announced his decision to leave the UNMC chancellor’s post next year to take a new role with the University of Nebraska, Harold M. Maurer, M.D., made a special point to acknowledge the efforts of his wife, Beverly.<\/p>\n

\nUNMC Chancellor Harold M. Maurer, M.D., and his wife, Beverly, have been an inseparable team as UNMC rose to new heights in the past 14 years. Next summer, the Maurers will turn their focus toward fundraising for the comprehensive cancer center project when Dr. Maurer leaves the chancellor’s post to work primarily with the University of Nebraska Foundation.<\/span>

\n<\/TABLE>Beverly Maurer has worked tirelessly to advocate for UNMC, entirely on a volunteer basis, and has played a key role in the medical center’s ascension in the past 14 years, Dr. Maurer said. <\/p>\n

“My wife has been my partner in life for over 50 years,” he said. “She loves networking and is admired and respected in return by everyone she meets.”<\/p>\n

A community mainstay<\/B><\/p>\n

Dr. Maurer pointed to his wife’s role as a member of the Board of Directors of the Joslyn Museum and Omaha Community Playhouse and her key input in events by the University of Nebraska Foundation, the Holland Center for the Performing Arts and at happenings at local, state and national levels as evidence of her commitment to UNMC and the university. <\/p>\n

“She is a strong advocate for UNMC and an asset in raising funds for UNMC projects and spreading the word about advances on campus and at the university,” Dr. Maurer said of the woman he often refers to as UNMC’s biggest advocate. <\/p>\n

A change of focus<\/B><\/p>\n

Dr. Maurer will leave the chancellor’s post on June 30 to primarily raise funds for the comprehensive cancer center campus. University of Nebraska President James B. Milliken praised the couple for their contributions and involvement.<\/p>\n
