\nCalista Kirby, a recent graduate from the College of Nursing, has been named Miss South Dakota.<\/span>
\n<\/TD>

\n<\/TABLE>Calista Kirby,<\/B> a 2012 May graduate from the College of Nursing-Lincoln campus, was crowned Miss South Dakota 2012. She is now preparing for the Miss America pageant, which will be broadcast on ABC on Jan. 12. Kirby currently works as a Health Educator at Avera McKennan in Sioux Falls, S.D. <\/p>\n

Sue Barnason, Ph.D.,<\/B> a professor at the UNMC College of Nursing Lincoln Division, has been appointed to serve as the chair of the Complex Cardiovascular Patient and Family Care committee by the Council on Cardiovascular Nursing of the American Heart Association from July 2012 through July 2014. The goal of this committee is to address cardiovascular conditions in adults requiring advanced nursing knowledge and skills and to propose initiatives related to improving care. In addition, Dr. Barnason recently was inducted into the American Academy of Nursing.<\/p>\n

Three students from the UNMC College of Nursing<\/B> received Student Nurse Excellence Awards at the March of Dimes Excellence in Nursing Awards banquet. The students were:
