\nDean Bradley Britigan, M.D.,<\/strong> will deliver his annual “State of the College of Medicine” address at 5 p.m. in Room 3001 of the Sorrell Center. The event is open to all faculty, staff and students.<\/p>\n

\nFeb. 18<\/strong>
\nTo help College of Medicine faculty better understand the Next Accreditation System, the new training program for resident physicians and fellows, the Graduate Medical Education Office and the Center for Continuing Education are collaborating on faculty development programs. The first will be held at noon on Feb. 18 in the Durham Research Center Auditorium and is intended as a general overview of competency-based education and the basics of NAS. Register here<\/a>. The second will be an afternoon workshop on March 25 for faculty in the seven specialties who will transition to NAS in July. More information on that program will be forthcoming.<\/p>\n

\nFeb. 20
\nRobert Wigton, M.D.,<\/strong> associate dean in the College of Medicine and professor of internal medicine, will deliver the third in a four-part series on the history of the college. He will detail the era between 1947 and 1980.  The lecture begins at noon in the Eppley Science Hall Amphitheater, and free pizza will be served to the first 100 in attendance. The final lecture in the series is set for March 20 and will cover the period from 1981 to the present.<\/p>\n

\nMatch Day for fourth-year College of Medicine students.<\/p>\n

\nApril 12-14 <\/strong>
\nThe inaugural Nebraska Science Festival will feature science- and technology-related activities across the Omaha area, all with the goal of making science accessible, interactive, relevant and fun for kids and adults alike. Bill Nye, “The Science Guy,” will give a free presentation on April 12 at 7:30 p.m. at the Joslyn Museum’s Witherspoon Hall. Other activities: include a free Student Expo on April 12 at the Durham Museum; a free Public Expo on April 13 at The Durham Museum; and “The Dancing Scientist,” Jeffrey Vinokur on April 12-13 at the Durham Museum.  <\/p>\n

\nApril 19 <\/strong>
\nThe Hustle for Hunger walk\/run for UNMC faculty and staff will be held at 4 p.m. at the Ruth and Bill Scott Student Plaza. The event will kick off the campus food drive for the Food Bank of the Heartland, which will run from April 22 through May 10.<\/p>\n

\nApril 29 <\/strong>
\nThe UNMC Board of Counselors will meet.<\/p>\n

\nApril 30 <\/strong>
\nThe annual event to honor UNMC’s Distinguished Scientists will be held at 4 p.m. in the Durham Research Center Amphitheater.<\/p>\n

\nMay 4 <\/strong>
\nCommencement for the College of Medicine will be held at 10 a.m. at the Ralston Arena, 7300 Q St.<\/p>\n

\nMay 13 <\/strong>
\nThe Nebraska Coalition for Lifesaving Cures will hold its annual tribute luncheon at 11:30 a.m. at Happy Hollow Club. This year, John and Lynne Boyer of Omaha will be honored for their support of research. For ticket information, call 402-391-2461 or email info@nebraskacures.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\nMay 17-18<\/strong>
\nPhysicians and clinical staff are invited to attend “Creating a Culture of Wellness in Healthcare Settings,” at the Lied Lodge and Conference Center, Nebraska City. The conference will focus on physical activity, nutrition and stress management as methods of enhancing wellness. Attendees also will learn new strategies, resources and patient counseling techniques to improve wellness outcomes for patients.
