\"Chelsea\" <\/p>\n

\nEditor’s Note:<\/em><\/strong> Each month, InterCOM will highlight a “Student of the Month” from the College of Medicine. Students will be featured for their participation in activities outside of medical school and for making a difference in the community. The goal is to recognize students for what they are doing and to encourage other students to get involved in the community. After all, medical school should be much more than studying.<\/p>\n

\nPersonal: \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nI am originally from Fremont and graduated from Nebraska Wesleyan University with a major in biology. I spent one year studying elementary education and two years studying social work before I finally settled on medicine as a career. My husband, Sean, and I have been a couple since high school. He is currently a student at UNMC earning his master’s degree in public health. We are hoping to adopt two dogs as soon as I receive my residency assignment. I am matching into internal medicine and hope to continue training in gastroenterology and hepatology.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\nActivities: <\/strong><\/p>\n

\nI currently serve on the UNMC Admissions Committee. In the past, I was a mentor for the High School Alliance, traveled to Jamaica as a member of the Student Alliance for Global Health, and served as a medical school representative on Student Senate for three years.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\nHobbies: <\/strong><\/p>\n

\nI love college football.\u00a0 I am (obviously) a lifelong Husker fan. More unusual, perhaps, is that I also am a huge Alabama fan (Roll Tide!).\u00a0 I love to read, mostly classic literature. My husband and I enjoy spending time outdoors and Jazz on the Green is a favorite summer pastime, along with tennis and anything poolside. When I have time, I also enjoy Cardio Barre.<\/p>\n

\nStaying balanced:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nMy husband and I try to stay involved with the community as much as our schedule allows. We maintain a plot in a community garden and recently participated in a Chili Cook-Off fundraiser for Big Brothers\/Big Sisters. We make a yearly trip to Colorado to run in the Bolder Boulder and didn’t give up the traditions we had prior to starting professional school.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
