Below is a list of achievements, activities and happenings involving UNMC staff, faculty and students.<\/p>\n

The UNMC Ice Rink<\/b><\/a> will now close Monday, March 11 (not March 17 as original planned). <\/p>\n

Matt Zimmerman, Ph.D., <\/b>cellular\/integrative physiology, has been elected a member of the American Heart Association – Omaha board of directors. Over the past five years, the AHA has supported $4 million of heart disease research in Nebraska, including $2.6 million at UNMC.<\/p>\n

\nKatie Brandert was awarded the Ehlinger award at the National CityMatCH conference in December.<\/span>

\nKathleen (Katie) Brandert,<\/b> manager of workforce and leadership development and director of the Great Plains Public Health Leadership Institute in the College of Public Health, was awarded the Ehlinger award at the National CityMatCH conference in December. CityMatCH, the national organization of urban maternal and child health leaders, is based at UNMC in the department of pediatrics. Brandert worked on public health projects that ranged from prepregnancy health and infant mortality to racism and health disparities. <\/p>\n

In celebration of St. Patrick’s Day, the instrumental and vocal ensembles of the UNMC Music Society <\/b>will perform Irish\/Celtic music on Monday, March 11, at 7 p.m. at Accelerando Coffee House, 3504 S. 108th St., Omaha.<\/p>\n

The UNMC Bookstore<\/b> invites you to save some green this March. Check out the savings — all books are 10 percent off and all clearance items are 50 percent off – and the latest hoodies and other apparel. The sale runs through March 15 in the UNMC Bookstore, located on the second floor of the Student Life Center.<\/p>\n

“Every Movement is a Milestone” is the theme for this year’s University Hospital Auxiliary Kaleidoscope<\/b> event on Saturday, March 9 at the LaVista Conference Center. The silent auction and social hour begins at 6 p.m. and dinner is at 8 p.m. Fred Wilson, survivor of the Von Maur shooting, will be the keynote speaker. Kaleidoscope is an annual, philanthropic event organized by the University Hospital Auxiliary. Funds raised will benefit the new Lifestyle Rehabilitation Center, which will focus on promoting independence for patients of all ages who experience chronic and progressive debilitating conditions.
