Toby Jurovics, Joslyn Art Museum’s chief curator, will give an illustrated talk on three exhibitions showcasing modern and contemporary artists working in painting, photography, and video installation at noon on May 9. All three are currently on view at the Joslyn.<\/p>\n

The exhibitions are:<\/p>\n

Route 36: Photographs by William Wylie<\/b>
\nLooking to avoid the monotony of Interstate 70 during a drive through Kansas, William Wylie took a detour across the two-lane Route 36, which runs along the state’s northern border. Captivated by the small towns, farms, fields, and open prairie, he returned over the next four summers to document the vernacular landscape of the plains.<\/p>\n

Jennifer Steinkamp: Madame Curie<\/b>

\nMarie Curie received two Nobel Prizes for creating the theory of radioactivity and discovering radium and polonium; she was also an avid gardener and lover of flowers. Video artist Jennifer Steinkamp’s monumental projection “Madame Curie” presents an abundance of marsh marigolds, mayflower, chestnut blossoms, and hop plants that weave their way across the gallery in a continually undulating field.<\/p>\n

Ten Masterworks from the Whitney Museum of American Art<\/b>
\nTen Masterworks from the Whitney Museum of American Art focuses on masterpieces by early 20th-century artists who challenged the boundaries of American art. Representing the finest works in the Whitney’s collection, these 10 paintings trace the emergence of modernism and abstraction during the first five decades of the 20th century, describing a range of narratives from urban society to the pastoral landscape, portraiture, and still life.<\/p>\n

All are on view through May, except Madame Curie, which is on view through June.<\/p>\n

Please RSVP to Kacie Gerard at unmcevents@unmc.edu<\/a> by May 7 if you are able to attend. There must be a minimum of 10 people signed up for the program to be held. <\/b><\/p>\n

The event is offered through the Passport Partners program, which provides free museum admission for medical center employees, students, and their immediate family with a valid identification badge, while also offering lectures, workshops and other events on the medical center campus.
