It can be seen online <a href=\"http:\/\/www. qualitysafety.bmj.com\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><b>Kalani Simpson,<\/b> communications specialist in UNMC Public Relations, recently received the 2013 Award for Excellence in The Robert G. Fenley Writing Awards (General Staff Writing category) from the Association of American Medical Colleges&#8217; Group on Institutional Advancement awards program. Simpson&#8217;s winning entry, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2012\/04\/26\/the-ph-d-defense\/\">&#8220;The Ph.D. Defense,&#8221;<\/a> shined a light on a common rite of passage. Of his entry, one judge said: &#8220;Wow! Wonderful example of creative writing. Pulled the heart strings just enough to choke me up. Made me stop, think, appreciate. Bravo!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><b>Wendy Wells,<\/b> community and population health nursing instructor at the UNMC College of Nursing West Nebraska Division, participated in Leadership Scotts Bluff Class 24, a seven-month long leadership development course which will conclude next week. The class participated in the annual &#8220;Hoops for Heroes&#8221; fundraising event that raised $16,500 for three projects that benefit children service organizations. <\/p>\n<p>For UNMC employees and faculty who would like to update Microsoft Office and Adobe skills,  ITS and Printing Services are offering several &#8220;end of semester&#8221; one-hour mini-sessions for Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Word, Access) and Adobe Photoshop, Acrobat and InDesign.  This mini-session marathon is being held May 14 to 22.
