\nFor the past 16 years, UNMC students have run the SHARING Clinics, considered one of the most successful student-run health clinics in the country. Students working in the clinic represent every UNMC college – medicine, nursing, dentistry, pharmacy, allied health and public health – and provide vital care to underserved people in North and South Omaha.<\/p>\n

\nOn April 18, the students celebrated the 16th<\/sup> anniversary of the clinics with a party in the west atrium of the Durham Outpatient Center. Numerous people were recognized at the celebration, including donors to the clinics and Chancellor Harold M. Maurer, M.D.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nThe students also hosted the “SHARING the Vision” Conference on April 19-20 in the Maurer Center for Public Health. Students and faculty from around the country attended the conference to learn more about the best practices that student-run clinics should employ.<\/p>\n

\nThe conference emphasized the role of faculty members in supporting student-run clinics. Other segments dealt with how clinics are organized; how they recruit, manage, and retain volunteers; how they finance their operations; how they’ve expanded or focused their services; and what changes and challenges may be in the future as a result of health care reform.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
