{"id":43396,"date":"2013-05-29T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2013-05-29T05:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2013\/05\/29\/agricultural-medicine-topic-of-summer-conference\/"},"modified":"2022-09-02T20:10:42","modified_gmt":"2022-09-03T01:10:42","slug":"agricultural-medicine-topic-of-summer-conference","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2013\/05\/29\/agricultural-medicine-topic-of-summer-conference\/","title":{"rendered":"Agricultural medicine topic of summer conference"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\"><p>Rural health professionals have the opportunity to learn about the latest in agricultural medicine at this summer&#8217;s Occupational and Environmental Health conference sponsored by the  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/publichealth\/cscash\/\">Central States Center for Agricultural Safety and Health<\/a> (CS-CASH) and UNMC&#8217;s College of Public Health.<\/p>\n<p>Registration is now open for the July 9-12 core courses that will be held at UNMC. Early bird registration is $700 on or before June 10; $800 after. Registration includes: <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Four days in class, or six hours online;\n<li>Course textbook and handout materials;\n<li>Farm tour and dinner;\n<li>Continuing education credit; and\n<li>Continental breakfasts, lunches, and breaks.\n<\/ul>\n<p>Training sessions are led by recognized experts in the fields of agricultural medicine, safety and health and include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>General environmental hazards;\n<li>Skin diseases of agricultural workers;\n<li>Behavioral health issues in the farming community;\n<li>Resources for farmers and ranchers with disabilities;\n<li>Farm safety for kids;\n<li>Personal protective equipment;\n<li>Veterinary pharmaceuticals, biologicals and antibiotics;\n<li>Zoonotic diseases;\n<li>Health effects of pesticides;\n<li>Trauma;\n<li>Musculoskeletal diseases and ergonomics;\n<li>Integration of agricultural occupational health care into an established health care organization; and\n<li>Innovations in rural health practices.\n<\/ul>\n<p>The online course, to be completed by Aug. 18, consists of four, 1.5 hour sessions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Physical factors affecting health in agriculture;\n<li>Prevention of agricultural injuries and illnesses;\n<li>Hearing loss prevention among agricultural workers; and\n<li>Cancer in agricultural populations.\n<\/ul>\n<p>Register  <a
