Truhlsen Eye Institute.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Very few academic medical centers across the country have this quality of cutting-edge infrastructure dedicated to pharmacy education and research,&#8221; said UNMC Chancellor Harold M. Maurer, M.D. &#8220;With the Lozier Center for Pharmacy Sciences and Education and Center for Drug Discovery, UNMC once again puts itself in elite company.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><TABLE border=\"0\" width=\"260\" cellspacing=\"5\" cellpadding=\"3\" align=\"right\"><br \/>\n<TR><br \/>\n<TD><br \/>\n<TABLE border=\"1\" width=\"250\" cellspacing=\"1\" cellpadding=\"5\" bgcolor=\"99ccff\"><br \/>\n<TR><br \/>\n<TD><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">\n<font face=\"arial\"><br \/>\n<B><br \/>\nGroundbreaking<br \/>\n<\/B><br \/>\n<BR><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">\n<font face=\"arial\" size=\"2\"><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>What:<\/b> Groundbreaking of the Lozier Center for Pharmacy Sciences and Education and Center for Drug Discovery\n<li><b>When:<\/b> 10:30 a.m. Thursday\n<li><b>Where:<\/b> Scott Student Plaza\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/P><br \/>\n<\/FONT><br \/>\n<\/TD><br \/>\n<\/TR><br \/>\n<\/TABLE><br \/>\n<\/TD><br \/>\n<\/TR><br \/>\n<\/TABLE><\/p>\n<p>The new building gives UNMC&#8217;s pharmacy students every advantage heading into today&#8217;s changing health care landscape, and UNMC&#8217;s esteemed research corps every tool available in order to uncover tomorrow&#8217;s breakthroughs. <\/p>\n<p>Research activities conducted in the Center for Drug Discovery will be especially focused on infectious diseases, making UNMC a national leader in the field. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;No other academic medical center in the U.S. has a drug discovery program with a similar focus,&#8221; Dr. Maurer said.<\/p>\n<p><TABLE border=\"0\" width=\"150\" cellspacing=\"10\" align=\"left\"><br \/>\n<TR><br \/>\n<TD><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/Court0611.jpg\" border=\"0\" align=\"right\" alt=\"picture disc.\"><br \/>\n<\/TD><br \/>\n<\/TR><br \/>\n<\/TABLE><\/p>\n<p><TABLE border=\"0\" width=\"250\" cellspacing=\"15\" cellpadding=\"10\" align=\"left\"><br \/>\n<TR><br \/>\n<TD><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">\n<font face=\"arial\"><br \/>\n<B><br \/>\n&#8220;This is a unique opportunity to imagine and improve the future of human health.&#8221;<br \/>\n<\/B><br \/>\n<BR><\/p>\n<p align=\"right\">\n<font face=\"arial\" size=\"1\"><br \/>\nCourtney Fletcher, Pharm.D.<br \/>\n<\/P><br \/>\n<\/FONT><br \/>\n<\/TD><br \/>\n<\/TR><br \/>\n<\/TABLE>UNMC&#8217;s College of Pharmacy is already recognized as one of the outstanding institutions for pharmacy education and research, with graduates that influence health care in communities across Nebraska and the U.S. <\/p>\n<p>But the Lozier Center for Pharmacy Sciences and Education&#8217;s patient care simulation and instructional space will emphasize the increasing role of pharmacists in providing primary health care by incorporating a contemporary model pharmacy, a sterile compounding room and practice areas for patient assessment and point of care testing. Student interaction and study areas will be designed to optimize collaborative learning.<\/p>\n<p>Said Courtney Fletcher, Pharm.D., dean of the College of Pharmacy: &#8220;This is a unique opportunity to imagine and improve the future of human health.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The $35 million project will completely replace and expand the college&#8217;s education space and increase its research capacity by constructing a new, 85,000-square foot facility on the UNMC campus. Construction will begin in February 2014, with projected completion set for July 2015.<\/p>\n<p>The facility will be built east of the Michael F. Sorrell Center for Health Science Education along Emile Street. <\/p>\n<p>Major gifts from Ruth and Bill Scott and The Lozier Foundation were the driving force behind the project, which will be paid
