Who doesn’t love dinosaurs?<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, June 25, UNMC employees and students will be invited to embrace their inner dinophile with a presentation by Thomas R. Holtz Jr., Ph.D., a paleontologist specializing in the origin, evolution, adaptations and paleobiology of carnivorous dinosaurs, especially the Tyrannosaurus Rex and its kin.<\/p>\n

\n<\/TABLE>Dr. Holtz will discuss “The Life and Times of Tyrannosaurus Rex.” <\/p>\n

Dr. Holtz is a senior lecturer in the geology department at the University of Maryland, College Park. His recent works include co-editing and writing Indiana University’s “The Complete Dinosaur, Second Edition” and several chapters in University of California Press’ “The Dinosauria, Second Edition.” <\/p>\n

In addition, Dr. Holtz has written several books for children and has been a consultant on numerous museum exhibits and TV documentaries (including BBC\/Discovery Channel’s “Walking with Dinosaurs,” “Dinosaur Revolution” and “Planet Dinosaur” and the History Channel’s “Jurassic Fight Club”).<\/p>\n

The most famous dinosaur species, Tyrannosaurus Rex has been the focus of intense scientific study. New analyses have helped us to understand the eyes, nose, brain, claws, jaws, teeth and legs, creating a better picture of how T. Rex lived, fed and fought. <\/p>\n

    With the aid of fossils, we now can reconstruct the changes in growth and behavior that the Tyrannosaurus went through during its life. With new information about the dinosaurs, other animals and plants which shared its environment, we can see how the last of the giant dinosaur predators ruled North America at the end of the age of dinosaurs. <\/p>\n

    This program is offered through the Time Travelers partnership, which provides free museum admission for medical center employees, students, and their immediate family with a valid identification badge, while also offering lectures, workshops and other events on the medical center campus. <\/p>\n
