\n<\/TABLE>Jim Anderson, Ph.D., associate dean for research in the College of Public Health, has been named to the Advisory Committee on Human Research Protection through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The committee is directed by HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius.<\/p>\n

The committee’s role is to advise, consult with and make recommendations to Secretary Sebelius as to the responsible conduct of research involving human subjects.<\/p>\n

Dr. Anderson is recognized internationally for his work in cooperative clinical cancer research. He has been at UNMC since 1989 and a member of the UNMC Institutional Review Board for more than 20 years. He has collaborated with colleagues in pediatric cancer research during a period of substantial increases in the cure rates for many childhood malignancies.<\/p>\n

“I am very excited about the opportunity to serve as a member of SACHRP,” Dr. Anderson said. ” I joined the UNMC Institutional Review Board more than 20 years ago to provide statistical reviews of research under IRB review. During these years of service, I have learned a lot about the ethical issues surrounding human subjects research and have collaborated on clinical ethics publications with my colleagues Toby Schonfeld, Bruce Gordon and Ernie Prentice. <\/p>\n

“What I have learned from working collaboratively with them and the other members of the UNMC IRB during my years of service has prepared my well for this important committee work,” he said. <\/p>\n

Dr. Anderson has been appointed to a four-year term. The appointment was effective July 10.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
