\n<\/TABLE>The School of Allied Health Professions’ inaugural all-school reunion, “Allies Assemble,” will take place this Friday and Saturday on the UNMC campus. <\/p>\n

This week, UNMC Today will run short profiles on some of the alums who are returning to UNMC for this inaugural event, having been honored with departmental awards.<\/p>\n

Here are the first two of eight honorees who will be profiled this week in UNMC Today.<\/p>\n

Kevin Haubrick<\/a>
\nMedical Nutrition Program Distinguished Alumnus Award<\/b><\/p>\n

When he was a medical nutrition student at UNMC, Kevin Haubrick, dietetic internship (class of 1997), showed a passion for his future profession. Today, he is responsible for managing an annual budget of $4 million. <\/p>\n

He serves as director of Food and Nutrition Services and the Dietetic Internship Program at Baptist Medical Center, and he was previously director of Food and Nutrition Services at Southwest General Hospital, both in San Antonio. <\/p>\n

He’s past president of the San Antonio Dietetic Association. The Texas Dietetic Association named him its 2004-05 Young Dietician of the Year.
\nHe helps shape the direction of dietetics education as a site visitor and program reviewer, and as council chair, for the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics. <\/p>\n

And that passion still burns. He’s helping transform accreditation standards to clarify focus on curriculum integrity and outcomes.<\/p>\n

At this year’s School of Allied Health Professions all-school reunion, he’ll be honored with the Medical Nutrition Program’s Distinguished Alumnus Award.<\/p>\n

Maheswari Mukherjee, Ph.D.<\/a>
\nCytotechnology Program Early Career Achievement Award<\/b><\/p>\n

Maheswari Mukherjee, Ph.D., cytotechnology certificate (class of 2010), served as a teaching assistant in the program, while she pursued her doctorate. She was working on virtual microscopy (VM), a technology in which glass slides are scanned and converted into digital images. She incorporated VM into the cytotechnology program as part of her dissertation. <\/p>\n

This was instrumental in guiding the program through the development of a VM curriculum. Her work was a leading factor in cytotechnology program’s expansion – it will soon add a second distance-education site. <\/p>\n

In 2013 Dr. Mukherjee became the cytotechnology education program’s education coordinator.<\/p>\n

For all that she’s done to shape and expand the program, she’s been honored with cytotechnology’s Early Career Achievement Award.<\/p>\n
